  • MARTIN KUTMAN – for long and successful work in sports and pedagogy
  • VALDU SUURKASK – for long and successful work in endorsing Estonian basketball

The award amounts to 600 000 Estonian Kroons

The Annual Sports Award:

  • GERD KANTER – Olympic gold medal in discus throw in Beijing 2008
  • VESTEINN HAFSTEINSSON – for successful work as a coach in preparing Gerd Kanter for the Beijing Olympics 2008
  • JÜRI JAANSON, TÕNU ENDREKSON – Olympic silver medal in rowing (the double scull event) in Beijing 2008
  • TATJANA JAANSON – for successful work as a coach in preparing the men’s double scull rowing team for the Beijing Olympics 2008
  • KAIA KANEPI – for outstanding accomplishments in tennis in 2008

The award amounts to 150 000 Estonian Kroons

National Sports Award for Young Athletes:

  • GRIT SHADEIKO – for bronze medal in heptathlon in the World Junior Championships 2008

  • PAAVO KIVINE – for long and successful work as a sports publicist and publisher

  • GERD KANTER- for gold medal in discus throw in 2007 Osaka World Championships in athletics
  • IRINA EMBRICH – for bronze medal in fencing in 2007 World and European Championships
  • JÜRI JAANSON – for bronze medal in rowing double scull event in 2007 World Championships
  • TÕNU ENDREKSON - for bronze medal in rowing double scull event in 2007 World Championships
  • JANIKA MÖLDER – for successful work as a coach in preparing the gymnastics club `Janika` for the 2007 World Championships in team gymnastics.
  • TOOMAS TÕNISTE – for successful and creative work in creating and developing a professional qualification system for coaches

  • DENISS KARPAK- for bronze medal in 2007 World Championships in sailing

  • LAUR LUKIN – for long work as a coach and for outstanding results as a creator of the contemporary Estonian school of skiing.
  • JAAK LIPSO – for outstanding results as a top-class basketball player

The Annual Sports Award:

  • KRISTINA ŠMIGUN – for two gold medals in cross-country skiing in 2006 Torino Winter Olympics.
  • ANDRUS VEERPALU – for gold medal in cross-country skiing in 2006 Torino Winter Olympics
  • ANDREI INEŠIN- for gold medal in 2006 World Championships in target shooting.
  • HEIKI NABI – for gold medal in Greek Rome style in 2006 World Championships in wrestling.
  • REIN AHUN – for successful work as a coach in preparing Margus Hunt for 2006 World Junior Championships in athletics.
  • MARGUS HUNT – for two gold medals in 2006 World Junior Championships in athletics.

The award amounts to 150 000 Estonian Kroons.

  • AAVO PÕHJALA – for successful work as a coach in preparing the Estonian judo team for 2004 Athens Olympics
  • ARE KAURIT and JÜRGEN JAKK – for bronze medal in sidecar motorcycle category in 2004 World Championships in cross-country motor race.   
  • MARKO MEHINE and MARIA FESSAI – for silver medal in the youth category in 2004 World Championships in competitive dance.

National Sports Award for lifework:

  • ANTS ANTSON – for outstanding accomplishments as a top-class athlete in skating and for long work and activism in developing Estonian sports
  • LAURI AUS (posthumously) – for outstanding accomplishments as a top-class bicyclist

The award amounts to 300 000 Estonian Kroons.

The Annual Sports Award:

  • MADIS LEPAJÕE – for successful work in developing long distance cross-country skiing and cycling in an international level
  • MARKO MÄRTIN – for successful participation in the 2003 Motocross World Championship.
  • ALAR SIKK – for conquering the Mount Everest
  • KRISTINA ŠMIGUN – for the World Champion title; for two silver medals and one bronze medal in 2003 Skiing World Championship.
  • ANDRUS VÄRNIK - for silver medal in spear-throwing in 2003 World Championships
  • JANE TREPP – for bronze medal in swimming in 2003 European Junior Championships.

The award amounts to 150 000 Estonian Kroons.


Laureates for National Sports Awards in 2002

National Sports Award for lifework:

  • AAVO PIKKUUS – for outstanding accomplishments as a top-class cyclist
  • EDGAR NAARITS – for long work and outstanding results as a coach, as a professor and as a creator of the contemporary school of basketball in Estonia.

The award amounts to 300 000 Estonian Kroons.

The Annual Sports Award:

  • Estonian women’s fencing team: OLGA ALEKSEJEVA, IRINA EMBRICH, HEIDI ROHI and MAARIKA VÕSU – for silver medal in 2002 World Championship in fencing.
  • Estonian women’s fencing team’s coaches: ANATOLI JASNOV, SAMUIL KAMINSKI and PEETER NELIS – for successful work in preparing Estonian women’s team for the World Championship.
  • PAVEL LOSKUTOV – silver medal in marathon in 2002 European Championships.
  • FELIKS SAAKJAN – for successful work as a coach in preparing Aleksei Budõlin for Olympics, for the World Championships, and for the European Championships.
  • ANDRES SKUIN (posthumously) – for successful work as a coach in training the Estonian national volleyball team
  • AIVAR REHEMAA – for the World Champion title in 30km cross-country skiing in 2002 World Junior Championships.

The award amounts to 150 000 Estonian Kroons.


Laureates for National Sports Awards in 2001

National Sports Award for lifework:

  • ATKO-MEEME VIRU – for long and successful work as a sports scientist and sports pedagogue and as a promoter of Estonian Olympics Movement
  • AUGUST ENGLAS – for outstanding results as a top-class athlete and for long activism in the promotion of Estonian wrestling.

The award amounts to 300 000 Estonian Kroons.

The Annual Sports Award:

  • TÕNU LUME – for successful work as a president of the Estonian Judo Association.
  • ANDRUS VEERPALU – for the World Champion title in cross-country skiing in Lahti World Championships in skiing.
  • MATI ALAVER – for preparing the Estonian National Cross-Country Team for Lahti World Championships
  • HEIDI ROHI – for bronze medal in fencing in European Championships.
  • PEETER NELIS – for successful work in preparing Heidi Rohi for the European Championships.
  • ALEKSEI BUDÕLIN – for the European Champion title in judo and silver medal in the World Championship.
  • NATALIA HISSAMUDTINOVA – for outstanding accomplishments in swimming.

The award amounts to 150 000 Estonian Kroons.



Laureates for National Sports Awards in 2000

National Sports Award for lifework:

  • The National Sports Award for lifework was not assigned because the Estonian Government did not approve the laureate proposal made by Estonian Sports Committee.

The award amounts to 200 000 Estonian Kroons

The Annual Sports Award:

  • SERGEI GLUŠKO – for successful work as a coach in preparing the Estonian Sailing Team for Sydney Olympics.
  • ERKI NOOL – for gold medal in decathlon in 2000 Sydney Olympics.
  • AAVO PÕHJALA – for successful work as a coach in preparing the Estonian Judo Team for Sydney Olympics.

The award amounts to 100 000 Estonian Kroons.
