Suuremõisa Workshop “Maintaining and tending the manor heritage”: An Estonian-Norwegian Collaborative Conference Facilitated by the EEA Grants Program

Over the course of three days, August 25-27, 2014, Norwegian and Estonian heritage practitioners, landscape architects, and professionals convened at Suuremõisa Manor for a workshop about historical gardening and conservation. Suuremõisa Manor, which hosts Hiiumaa Vocational school and has received an EEA grant for the revitalization of its heritage, provided not only a beautiful and historic setting for this event, but also top-notch conference facilities. The workshop program included a diverse set of presentations covering everything from the theoretical issues facing conservation planners to strategic discussions about heritage and development.  During the practical portion of the workshop, participants got hands-on experience with plastering and toured the manor’s gardens.  The workshop was punctuated by lots of opportunities for casual conversation aimed at facilitating cross-national collaborations among participants.
